Hanson and Schultz are currently based in Michigan. Having both grown up in and around music communities, they share a collaborative spirit and appreciation for creative expression. Working independently as artists over the past ten years, in 2017 they came together as partners to embark on Grandmothers of America.

Joey Schultz

Schultz is a multifaceted artist based in Michigan. Beginning as a musician and wood worker, he has taken travel photography and portraiture as a spiritual practice. Working with others to tell stories and raising awareness, Joey has been using his photography as an instrument for social change. He studied art history at Kingston University in London, England and his work with photography came to fruition through his love of travel, learning and celebrating the differences of culture and perspective. His images documented through his travels from Central and South America, Cuba, China, Tibet and Europe, have been published in magazines such as,  “Somewhere,” “The Cone” and “The Issue”. His portraits with strangers reveal delicate and rare moments that can only be captured in a space of trust between photographer and subject. His boldness and conversational skills are essential tools in his creative workflow. His enthusiasm was the engine behind Grandmothers of America.

John Hanson

Hanson is a producer, musician and photographer. Based in Detroit, Michigan he has used his skills to connect and bring artists together creating spaces and opportunities for collaboration and growth. His work uses multiple mediums but all follow a consistent, sensitive, nuanced approach. After studying photography at Northwestern Michigan College, Hanson’s photography skills have taken him to Mexico, Central America, and Europe. He has worked as a producer and photographer in the creative communities of Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto and Detroit. John’s photography primarily focuses on portraiture and the analog process. With an emphasis on timelessness, classic beauty and traditional techniques, the skills acquired over his past ten years as a freelance photographer has prepared him to be behind the lens on Grandmothers of America. 


Executive Producer
Michael R. Harris

Harris is a producer, photographer, musician, founder of ProSeed Books, editor of the online magazine “The Cone”, and a television professional who has been working on the iconic show Jeopardy for the last 14 years. His goals are rooted in the principles  of multimedia artistic collaborations that utilizing art/photography as a means to give back and enrich the community.


Designer
Ben Biondo

Ben is an artist and designer living in from Michigan living in Southern California. Biondo set up his own company, working for advertising agencies, apparel brands and and startups, developing everything from branding and printed matter, to apparel, packaging. Over the past few years, Biondo has designed products and labeling for brands such as Golden State Cider, started an independent publisher, designed apparel for the New York Knicks as well as dreamed up an illustrated poster series inspired by the films of Wes Anderson (and that is just scratching the surface).
